Osborn History

E.B. Osborn

E.B. Osborn, an early Turlock merchant who served on the City Council from 1908-1918, was the source of the name for Osborn Elementary School which opened in 1958. In addition to serving on the City Council, Osborn was also Turlock's Fire Chief from 1908-1925 as well as Mayor. At his general store business on Main Street, customers were able to purchase products using credit, a policy that farmers found particularly beneficial. His family was also instrumental in the creation of Turlock Memorial Park, the cemetery located west of the current site for the newly renamed Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy. Osborn proudly displays a portrait of their namesake in the school cafeteria. The next time you are on campus, check it out! ~Turlock Historical Society
